Forgeron Cellars provides wine enthusiasts who are looking for more than just a “Tasting Room” experience, an opportunity to sample some of Washington’s most elegant wines. Located in an old blacksmith shop at 3rd & Birch, Forgeron Cellars is within easy walking distance from Walla Walla’s major hotels and restaurants. As guests tour through the tank and barrel rooms, they are given an intimate look into the mechanics of winemaking while being treated to award-winning red and white wines. Every tour includes insight into Marie-Eve’s winemaking philosophy and how it affects each individual wine’s character and makeup.

Each plate comes with a description of the cheeses including some of the attributes that make it a good match with particular wines. Choose from our Pacific NW cheeses plate, our international cheeses plate and the O.S.U./ W.S.U cheeses plate which puts Oregon's Beaver Classic head to head with Washington's Cougar Gold. Say cheese! Or, better yet, local cheese -- the culinary operative for the Olympic Peninsula Wineries’ annual Northwest Wine & Cheese Tour. Food and wine enthusiasts are invited to enjoy sipping and savoring new wine releases and ciders paired with a variety of cheeses crafted by local artisan creameries, while reveling in the sights and sounds of nature reawakening on the scenic Olympic Peninsula. “Washington is home to a number of award-winning cheesemakers,” says Vicki Corson, president of the Olympic Peninsula Wineries Association, “some of which are internationally renowned. During the Northwest Wine & Cheese Tour, the Olympic Peninsula Wineries and nine local creameries will treat visitors to a truly local culinary experience, with interesting pairings that provide an authentic sense of place.” Tickets may be purchased via PayPal and at participating wineries during the event. The $30 ticket and glass package entitles you to a special commemorative wine glass, complimentary wine tasting at all nine OPW Wineries and delectable samples of cheese at each winery during the NW Wine & Cheese Weekend. This event does not take place at one location. You travel from winery to winery, visiting the ones you are interested in exploring. Tickets are not required to attend this event. A $5.00 wine tasting fee will be charged at each winery for non-ticketed visitors. You must be 21 or over to purchase tickets and/or participate in wine tasting. All ticket sales are non-refundable. The Olympic Peninsula Wineries encourage responsible wine touring and recommend that you have a designated driver in your group. Spring Shrub Steppe Walk

Join us for an early morning hike through the shrub steppe. We will be on the lookout for some of the shrub steppe spring wildflowers as well as looking at basalt outcroppings. We had a fire on the native ground, and we can see what is coming back. Meet us at the tasting room at 9:00 am. We will go for about an hour hike through the native ground to the north of the winery. -- No fee - but reservations are required.

Hood River Rotary announced their annual fundraiser, the Columbia Gorge Wine & Pear Fest – set for May 17-18th, 2014 in Hood River. This two day event will feature the many award-winning wineries and vineyards in the Columbia Gorge AVA, including two days of wine tasting, artists from around the Pacific Northwest, fruit pairings from the Pear Bureau Northwest, food from the best restaurants in the region, and area musicians. The event will be held at the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) in Hood River. Proceeds from the event will benefit Hood River Rotary’s Scholarship program for local graduating high school students. Tickets: Day Pass is $25 per person includes 4 wine-tastings, commemorative glass and admission to WAAAM. Hours: Saturday 11am-6pm, Sunday 12-5pm
