Clayoquot Wilderness Resort - A Unique Gig for Good
Dates:
June 19, 2014 - June 22, 2014
Location:
Clayoquot Wilderness Resort - Tofino British Columbia Canada
Description:
Glamping Weekend Fundraiser combines Canadian wine, celebrity chefs and musical icons Clayoquot Unplugged – A Unique Gig for Good, June 19 to 22, 2014 Tofino, BC – With a wait list for summer adventure packages, Canada’s Clayoquot Wilderness Resort decided to up the ante by hosting an annual fundraising weekend for a local BC charity – Power To Be Adventure Therapy Society – betting that the chance to chill with top Canadian vintners, chefs and performers in one of the most beautiful destinations in BC, while making a difference for youth and families, will sell out. This year, guests arriving for four days and three nights, Thursday, June 19 through Sunday, June 22, 2014, will be hosted by Terry David Mulligan, fed by Chefs David Hawksworth of Hawksworth Restaurant, and Pino Posteraro of Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill & Enoteca, and entertained by Jim & Devin Cuddy, Ed Robertson, Anne Lindsay and home grown band Kings Without. Wine will be poured by the proprietors of award winning Painted Rock and Foxtrot Wineries. Musician Dave Matthews, a fan of Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, even donated wines from his winery, Dreaming Tree, in support as he is unable to attend the weekend. Only 24 people or 12 couples can buy-in to the weekend, for $12,000 Cdn (plus taxes), based on double occupancy. Donated proceeds made by guests will go directly to BC-based Power To Be Adventure Therapy, a not-for-profit organization that for over 16 years has inspired more than 7,500 youth and families in need of support to discover their limitless abilities through nature-based programs. For more information, visit www.powertobe.ca “Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is following the trend of philanthropy tourism, targeting those who work hard, want to give back when they travel and are drawn to a remote luxury wilderness retreat,” says Clayoquot Wilderness Resort’s Managing Director John Caton. “We are blessed in this part of the world to have many remarkable wilderness experiences; however I think people will be hard pressed to find a weekend that combines this level of outstanding Canadian music, food and wine at a resort like Clayoquot that is world renown for its level of hospitality and adventures.” “We are incredibly fortunate to receive the support of Clayoquot Wilderness Resort among all the generous performers, vintners and chefs that truly separates this event from a traditional fundraiser,” says Power To Be’s Executive Director Tim Cormode. “In fashion with our organization’s values the Clayoquot Unplugged weekend represents what is possible through inspiration and dedication to realize the unimaginable.” And the evenings will be filled with music. Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo will rock the wilderness Friday night with his Juno-nominated son Devin Cuddy and Anne Lindsay, who has established herself as one of the most engaging and versatile instrumentalists in Canada, adapting her unique violin/fiddle style to the eclectic sounds and musical languages of Canada’s rich cultural texture. Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies takes the stage Saturday night with Vancouver Island’s own Kings Without. Lead singer Todd Dunsmore was working at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort when Caton discovered his voice. Caton, who started his career as a talent scout and recording artist manager with Risqué Disque Records encouraged him to create a band and get more involved in the music industry. Based in Nanaimo, BC, Dunsmore has since taken over the business started by Caton and continues to perform with King’s Without. For more information about Clayoquot Wilderness Resort and to book Clayoquot Unplugged, visit www.wildretreat.com or call 1-888-333-5405. About Clayoquot Wilderness Resort Surrounded by glacial mountains and lush rain forest, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is located in British Columbia’s fragile Clayoquot Sound Biosphere reserve, right at the mouth of the Bedwell River, approximately 40 minutes outside of Tofino, BC.
