Washington State wines served at The White HouseRelease Date: January 20, 2011
The “quintessentially American” state dinner honoring Chinese President Hu Jintao featured three wines, two of which came from Washington State – a 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from Quilceda Creek Vintners and a 2008 Botrytis Riesling from Poet’s Leap Winery by Long Shadows Vintners.
Notable Washington State attendees at the dinner included Governor Christine Gregoire, former Washington State Governor and current United States Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
The previous two state dinners by President Obama, honoring leaders from India and Mexico, have included five wines from California, one from Oregon, and one from Virginia. Washington State exports to China total more than $15 billion annually, second only to California.
