Winemaker for a Day – October 18, 2008
Find out if you can hack it as a winemaker when you join Two Mountain winemaker Matt Rawn for a hands-on day at the winery’s annual Winemaker for a Day event held in October. This exclusive event features the opportunity to participate in the most exciting time of year in a winery – harvest and crush. The first hour will be spent in Two Mountain Vineyard with Patrick Rawn, examining the vines and learning how to determine when the grapes are ready for harvest. Participants will roll up their sleeves and head to the Two Mountain cellar for the second hour, where they’ll learn about and take part in the process of crush. With hands-on guidance, they’ll learn how to read brix through a hydrometer, take temperature readings, participate in punch-down and learn about the fermentation process. At only $25 per person, this annual experience sells out very quickly.
Vineyard Crew – Four Times Annually
Two Mountain Winery’s “Vineyard Crew” lets wine lovers and aspiring viticulturists unleash their inner farmers and learn what it takes to grow premium wine grapes in the heart of Yakima Valley. Vineyard Crew sessions are led by Two Mountain Vineyard manager Patrick Rawn, with support from winemaker Matt Rawn. From pruning to thinning, verasion to harvest, crew members tend to assigned Vineyard Crew vines at four key growing periods during the year so they experience the grape growing cycle first hand. Each of the four, half-day sessions includes a finger-filthying enological experience followed by wine and appetizers in the Two Mountain cellar. Vineyard Crew members receive generous discounts of 15 percent off per bottle/20 percent off per case, an exclusive member tee-shirt and, of course, dirty hands and serious bragging rights. Priced at $85 per person or $150 per couple.
Chalk Party – June
Tap into your inner child while creating chalk art on the floor at Two Mountain Winery during the winery’s annual Chalk Party in June. With wine, music, food and fun, kids of all ages can enter a friendly chalk art contest with the winning design adorning TMW’s special summer release Dry Rose’ wine label. All event proceeds benefit the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Center, which provides equine-assisted therapy for disabled kids and adults. The event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $20 to draw.
Outdoor Dinner and a Movie Series – August
Brothers Matt and Patrick Rawn welcome wine lovers to bring their favorite lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the annual outdoor Dinner and a Movie series at Two Mountain Winery in August. Guests enjoy a catered dinner and fabulous Two Mountain wines followed by a private screening of some of Matt and Patrick’s favorite films on the cool, soft grass outside the winery. Dinner begins at 7:30 p.m. and movies start at dusk. At $25 per person, this event is a summer steal and the perfect way to unwind after a day touring Yakima Valley’s wine country.
Established in 2002, Two Mountain is a family-owned operation that draws on the experience of three generations who have farmed the rich soil of the Yakima Valley.
Owned and operated by brothers Matthew and Patrick Rawn, the name "Two Mountain" is inspired by majestic Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams that form the breathtaking backdrop of Two Mountain vineyard. Two Mountain's award-winning wines are a reflection of the perfect climate in which they were grown.
You’ll never feel intimidated in the Two Mountain tasting room – from the friendly “wine dogs” who greet you at the door, to the bucket of chalk provided for kids so they can doodle while their parents taste – Two Mountain is a laid-back, casual environment to learn about wine. Likewise, Two Mountain wines have a distinctly approachable personality; they’re elegant, fun and inviting.
The winery produces eight varietal wines – Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Lemberger, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touiga Nacional – along with a Dry Rose’ and a Red Blend. The majority of the grapes are sourced from Two Mountain’s estate vineyard.
Two Mountain wines are currently available throughout Washington state, Oregon, Idaho, Massachusetts, Hawaii and Japan and will soon be distributed in additional U.S. markets. Two Mountain wines are renowned for their tremendous value, offering exceptional quality at an accessible price point.
