Our Story
OUR STORY
Blain and Kim Roberts founded this venture on the urging of WSU agricultural extension agent, Don Tapio. “You should plant a vineyard and open a winery. It will be historic.”
Their son, Dana, is their winemaker and their daughter, Carrie, runs the tasting room. In addition to their commitment to the business, everyone in the Roberts family has a passion for the sea and Washington’s coastal community. They express their passion by crafting great wines in a friendly atmosphere.
OUR WINES
At Westport Winery quality is attained through thoughtful creativity and adventuresome science. The wines are made with food, friends, and fun in mind—the awards garnered are simply frosting on the cake. With thirty-two wines available for tasting, there is surely a winner for every palate.
OUR WINERY
In keeping with the seafaring tradition of this community the winery was designed to reflect the architecture of a District 13 Coast Guard Station, including a 40-foot lighthouse. Inside, guests may sample gourmet foods and wine at the tasting bar or be seated in the Gathering Room to relax with surf movies and popcorn.
Guests may shop the winery’s array of fine foods and eclectic gifts from the Northwest and around the world. Wrapping is free on everything from wine to custom gift baskets.
Picnic baskets of gourmet cheese, meat, crackers, chocolates, and other delights are available for dining in the Gathering Room or to take to the beach.
OUR FARM
Vineyards By-the-Sea is a 21.5-acre Salmon Safe certified farm growing Pinot Noir, Madeleine Angevine, Muscat of Norway, Siegerrebe, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Precoce, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Chardonnay wine grapes. Other crops include irises, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, Asian pears, vegetables, culinary herbs, honey bees, and chickens.
The herb garden includes two putting greens, croquet, bocce, horseshoes, and a pétanque court making this a destination for all ages.
To commemorate their wines the family commissions local artists to create sculptures for each wine in their sculpture garden. The wedding garden blooms exclusively in white to match any bride’s colors.
OUR EVENTS
The winery offers wine, cheese, chocolate, and charcuterie tasting daily from 11am to 6pm. Tours are presented on request. Brunches, winemaker’s dinners, mystery dinner theater, culinary classes, great lectures, and concerts are scheduled throughout the year. The Gathering Room is available for private dinners, events and celebrations by reservation, with menus customized for each group.
People and pets meet for Yappy Hour on sunny, summer Sundays. In June, guests celebrate all things French during the Fleur de Lis Festival. Summer rings in the Twilight Concert Series. In October join in grape-stomping during the Crush Me, Squeeze Me, Make Me Wine At The Beach Festival. November is Chocolate Month. And in December celebrate Wine Country Christmas.
OUR WINE CLUB
In February, May, August, and November, wine club members are invited to enjoy wine tasting, live music, and food on selected weekends. Membership is free.
OUR COMMUNITY
It is traditional to think of grapes and wine in terms of terroir (the place). Our place is all about fine wine set against a backdrop of fine food, a great community, wonderful activities, extraordinary scenery, and a family that wants to share its love of these features with each of you. A portion of the proceeds from each bottle benefits designated local charities.
