About Chateau Ste. Michelle
Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle pioneered vinifera grape growing in the Columbia Valley and is the oldest winery in Washington State. Known for its highly acclaimed Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the chateau is located 15 miles northeast of Seattle on 87 wooded acres that were once the summer home of Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson. The winery's expansive grounds make an excellent picnic site. Complimentary guided tours and tastings are offered from 10 am to 4:30 pm daily. Reserve, single-vineyard and library wines are available for tasting for a modest fee by appointment (call 425-488-4633). During the summer, the winery is home to a popular performing arts series featuring top international recording artists.
Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including “2008 Wine Brand of the Year” by Market Watch Magazine, “American Winery of the Year 2004” from Wine Enthusiast Magazine and “2005 Winery of the Year” by Restaurant Wine Magazine.
The winery’s portfolio includes Columbia Valley wines styled to bring out the varietal character of the region; Single Vineyard wines that epitomize the terroir of the winery's best vineyards; Ethos, the winery’s pinnacle tier; and Artist Series, a Bordeaux-style blend styled for power and longevity.
