Mercer Estates Winery, Mercer Estates Petit Verdot 2009

Late-ripening, thick-skinned Petit Verdot is used in Bordeaux to add color and structure to blends. It is difficult to ripen in all but the warmest climates which explains its origin in Southwest France. Petit Verdot does quite well in the warm Washington climate, especially our Spice Cabinet Vineyard. Aged in French oak for 22 months, the wine is deeply colored and structured, but surprisingly supple. Aromas of mixed fresh berry, lilac and sage lead a rich, full palate and finish with smooth, silky tannins. This wine will age exceptionally well and evolve to show the unique character of the variety.
