Steppe Cellars will be closed until the annual Red Wine and Chocolate event February 17th, 18th,19th and 20th. We will have chocolate fondue for our guests and we will have aroma standards to help you find great pairings for our wines. Our winery is off the beaten path and offers a great escape for those looking for a quieter weekend. Come by and enjoy the chocolate and wine!

Our Story

Steppe Cellars is a young winery in the Yakima Valley. Our first vintage was 2005, but our history in the valley starts much earlier. Steppe Cellars is the partnership of Tom and Susan Garrison and Mike and Gabrielle Siebel. Tom and Susan have been farming Riesling grapes since 1981, and Mike and Gabrielle own the cherry orchard next to the winery. It’s a family affair as Susan and Gabrielle are sisters. The winemaker at Steppe Cellars is no newcomer to the wine industry either. Anke Freimuth-Wildman has been involved in the wine industry in Washington since the mid 1990’s.

The experiences of the partners in the Yakima Valley has led to a deep respect and affinity for the climate of the region and the beauty of our Shrub Steppe environment. This respect has led the partners to orient their winery around the Steppe environment. So much of what we are able to do in the Yakima Valley (namely produce consistently high quality vintages) is made possible by the land that we live on and the climate of where we are located. Come by the tasting room and talk with one of the owners,( they are usually behind the bar,) about the environment, wine or land they care so much about. We love talking about our experiences here in this amazing place and hearing about yours. Please visit our website for events and purchasing options.
