Walla Walla Vintners, 2011 Walla Walla Valley Estate Syrah

If you enjoy how terroir and clones influence taste, you will want to wrap your lips around this 100% Syrah. The Joseph Phelps and Tablas Creek clones thrive in our dry-farmed estate, cool-climate vineyard. Dry farming contributes to lower yields which add intensity and concentration of flavors. This is not a wimpy Syrah and is similar to the ones we tasted in Lyon. It's rich with an inky hue, a black pepper nose, a mid-palate of black olives, roasted meat, red peppers, and eggplant. The finish is lengthy and has grip. It is more expressive after an hour or two of breathing. This is a small batch Syrah, only 96 cases were produced.
