Walla Walla Vintners, 2011 Walla Walla Valley Merlot

The quality of the 2010 Merlot vintage in Walla Walla was exceptional and we think 2011 will be of even higher quality. This palate-grabbing wine contains 85% Merlot from Seven Hills (50%), Pepper Bridge (20%) and Dwelley (15%) vineyards. The 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Pepper Bridge and 5% Cabernet Franc from Dwelley were infused to add spice and round out the big flavors provided by the Merlot. After aging for 19 months in French, American and Hungarian oak the wine has become very generous with its dry cherry nose, a mid-palate of tobacco, espresso coffee and a mocha finish. You do not have to search for these flavors - they jump out of the glass. You can cellar this wine for ten years or drink it now after decanting.
