The Washington State Wine Commission launched a competitive research grant program in 2020 to expand Washington wine industry’s research reach. Grants from one to four years are available. Information about the WA Wine grant program’s proposal and reporting templates are below.

Viticulture and enology research in Washington also is funded through the Washington State Grape and Wine Research Program, a grant program administered by WSU. More information about the WSU grant program, including proposal and reporting templates, can be on the WSU website here.

Both grant programs utilize the Washington Wine Research Grant Portal for submission of applications.

All new research projects must submit a pre-proposal—for both the Washington Wine Commission and statewide Grape and Wine Research Program—by October 23, 2026. The pre-proposal application is an online form accessible in the grant portal.
