The Washington State Wine Commission Board approved 24 research projects totaling approximately $995,000 for the upcoming fiscal year (July 2022-June 2023). A common thread of research for the coming year is sustainability. Scientists at Washington State University are working to develop cutting-edge, sustainable management strategies and tools that wine grape growers can use in the newly launched Sustainable WA certification program. The projects approved are funded through the statewide program administered by WSU that combines contributions from WSU, Washington Wine, Auction of Washington Wines and state liter taxes (1/4 cent per liter of all wine sold) and through Washington Wine’s own grant program.
