Washington’s 2014 grape production totaled 227,000 tons, a record for the state and a 8% increase over the previous year. Both red and white varieties showed strong growth from 2013. Of the state’s top four varieties (Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot), Riesling showed the largest growth, up 26% from the previous year with much of this attributable to increased plantings as well as the warmth of the growing season
