Liberty Lake Wine Cellars is a boutique winery in Washington State offering big, bold reds from the Red Mountain AVA along with a few whites that pair perfectly with our reds. Sourcing from this world-class AVA lets our winery allow the grapes to shine on their own accord. We start by picking harvest dates that ensure optimal ripeness for our grapes. That coupled with our winemaker, Mark Lathrop, being able to haul many small lots of fruit himself from vineyard to the winery allowing the fruit to be crushed that day. After harvest is concluded, we follow minimal processing in the winemaking to capture the essence of each vintage. No water, excess acid, or additives are added to the wine before fermentation. Wine is moved by gravity instead of pumps, and is bottled by hand - unrefined and unfiltered. We focus on small lots of many varietals so patrons always have new and exciting wines to drink and collect. The tasting room opened its doors in 2007 with the release of its 2005 vintage produced by original owners Doug and Shelly Smith. Mark and Sarah took over the operation in January 2016 with the intent of making the same big bold reds while adding a second label, Tahija, to introduce whites, rosés, and other reds from other Washington State AVAs.
