The first blocks of grapevines at Rocky Reach Estates were planted in 2018. The sandy soil, gentle slope down to the Columbia River and temperatures made it an ideal location for Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Carmenere. There are 20.3 acres in production. The name, Rocky Reach, was a term used by steamboat captains in the late 1880’s to describe the rapids within a stretch, or “reach”, of the Columbia River. In July, 2022, the Rocky Reach AVA was established as Washington State’s 20th AVA and encompasses the Rocky Reach Estates and Double D vineyards.
